Music Together: Generations (Coming in Fall 2017!)

In Music Together Generations classes, teachers and families foster meaningful musical relationships across the ages, as "Musical Grandfriends" join the music-making circle.  The program follows a similar format to that of the Mixed Age model, but is hosted at a senior living facility so that residents can join the weekly gathering of parents and children.  Expanding the class community in this way enriches the experience for families and supports new connections, both musical and interpersonal.

UVMC offers the mixed-age class!

This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

Your family should join music together because...

- The class is 45 minutes of PURE FUN with your child(ren) every week
- The ability to sing, dance and express oneself musically is a wonderful part of being human!
- Children need a stimulating, supportive musical environment to achieve basic music competence: the ability to sing in tune, move and sing with rhythmic accuracy.
- Reaching basic music competence is a multi-year process and the window of opportunity for primary music development is wide open from birth to 5 years old
