* Chamber ensemble sessions are encouraged but are in addition to the regular session. Students selecting the chamber option must meet the Sunday commitment or be willing to schedule at a different day/time. Participation in the full ensemble is required.

UVMC Programs & Faculty - UVMC Youth String Orchestras

Upper Valley Music Center offers one elementary youth string orchestra: Baroken Strings, and one intermediate String Orchestra: UVMC Harmonic Orchestra. All classes are taught each week on Sunday afternoons. The purpose of these classes is to provide advanced teaching in String Orchestra & Chamber Ensemble literature and performance techniques. Advanced youth are invited to play in the UVMC Community Orchestra with amateur and semi-professional community musicians.

The Baroken Strings - Conducted by Joanna Nelson
A string orchestra for beginners. Learn to read and play string orchestra literature. Excellent way to introduce the student to ensemble playing. Students not only learn beginning orchestra etiquite, but also get to enjoy the fun repertoire appropriate both for their age and playing ability in a social setting with peers. Open to children of all ages with at least one year’s experience in class or private string instrument lessons; the student should be able to read and play from low G to G on the E string.

The UVMC Harmonic Orchestra – Conducted by Joanna Nelson
Intermediate string orchestra. Learn string orchestra literature and enjoy performance opportunities with this fun and educational string ensemble class.
Prerequisites: Play comfortably in the keys of C, G, D, A, F & B-flat. Students play in the Baroken ensemble and receive an extra thirty minutes of small chamber ensemble coaching to receive more focused instruction and learn more advanced music.
Auditions will be held for those who need placement advice.
