UVMC Alumni
The UVMC is proud to recognize and support our alumni.
They have spread across the country and for each
and every one of them; music has remained something near
and dear to their hearts.
For some, music has become a career and for
others it remains a passionate hobby.
We are glad to have provided them all a part of
their influential training.
See what some of our alumni are up to!
Mary Bonhag
Mary
played violin in the UVMC String Orchestra for four
years.
These were formative years for Mary both musically and
personally.
Mary sees Bob Mark is an incredibly supportive teacher
who encouraged her to sing a few pieces with the
orchestra—her first times soloing with orchestra.
Since then, Mary has graduated with a B.M. in
Voice Performance at the University of Michigan,
performing regularly in premiere performances, opera
productions, concerts, and recitals.
But the violin has not been abandoned by any
means.
Since meeting her fiancé who is an avid classical and
folk double bass player, Mary delved more into fiddling
to satisfy her need for strings!
Mary loves both singing and fiddling—which each
fulfill her in different ways.
In the past four years, her singing has taken me
to Italy, Germany, Hawai’I, South Africa, and around the
continental U.S.
Upcoming is an appearance with Washington D.C.’s
21st
Century Consort, performing chamber works by Crumb
and Warlock.

freshman and sophomore and now as a senior, plays with
the campus Mariachi band which play different gigs

Erika Knight

from Meriden, NH, has played with the Upper Valley Music
Center since programs were first offered for kids,
including playing with the UVMC Strings from 1999-2005,
both during the school year and through the summer. She
taught at the summer camp and performed with the Summer
Strings in 2005 and 2006. She now attends Cornell
University in Ithaca, NY, where she is a junior,
studying geology and teaching for the outdoor education
program. She has played with the Cornell Symphony
Orchestra and continues to play informally with friends
several times a semester.
Molly McCumber
Molly
McCumber played with UVMC for 6 years in the orchestra
and a chamber ensemble as well as three years of
teaching at the summer music camp.
She is currently at
Skidmore
College
in
New York,
where she have been playing in the orchestra and in
chamber ensembles for that last four years.
Molly also occasionally joins in an Irish-style
jam session with the Irish Club on campus, and
experimented briefly with jazz.
Though Molly does not plan to pursue music as a
career, she really enjoy it as a hobby and hopes she can
continue playing when she leaves school.
Stephen Palmer
Stephen
Palmer has worked with the UVMC since it started its
summer program in 2003. He has a Bachelor of Music from
Cornell University and is in his final year of a masters

principal of the Symphony Orchestra at WSU. He plays in
the professional Wichita Symphony Orchestra as a section
